African American Legacy, The Carol Mundy Collection is home to an amazing collection of objects and illustrations that chronicle and document the incredible story of the black Diaspora. A massive assortment of art, artifacts, period clothing, furniture, utilitarian objects, industrial tools, sheet music, photographs, diaries, documents, records, books, journals, paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, fiber and mixed-media works comprise our diverse and extraordinary collection. The collection is being housed at the University of Central Florida Library Special Collections & University Archives.

Collector

For more than 25 years, Carol Mundy, has collected African American culture, literature, music, art, and documents, that provides a comprehensive view of African American community life, experiences, endeavors, and contributions. The collection show an in-depth view of African American communities and lives in Central Florida.


Digital Archive

The Carol Mundy online digital archive is a joint project of Carol Mundy and the University of Central Florida's Digital Media Department.

Through the Mundy Collection, Ms. Mundy is bringing to the people of Florida and those interested in the history and heritage of the Sunshine State the chance to explore, learn about, and perhaps, better appreciate the lives of black Floridians. The effort to digitally preserve items from the Mundy collection has resulted in this searchable online archive.

The Carol Mundy collection loan encompasses a cross section of African-American life, community, work, entertainment and culture over the century of 1860s to 1960s. The online archive is a searchable database of a total of 605 digitized images of historic documents, manuscripts, utilitarian artifacts, photographs, and artwork related to popular cultural objects of all kinds.
