About Us
African American Legacy: The Carol Mundy Collection is a Florida-based collection dedicated to the preservation, education, and preservation of African American history and culture. The private collection of Carol Mundy is now being housed at the University of Central Florida Library Special Collections & University Archives. This collection of over 5,000 items has materials on the black experience in all formats: books, manuscripts, sheet music, pamphlets, journals, newspapers, broadsides, posters, photographs, and rare ephemera.
Mission
The organization will promote awareness, understanding and appreciation of the African American culture. This will be fostered through research; dissemination of historical information and social traditions; and educational programs, exhibits, conferences and related activities. The organization will create and support programs and events that seek to expand the knowledge of African American contributions to our country's history and culture.
Goals
- To establish and maintain an African American history museum founded on the substantial Carol Mundy Collection of artifacts and memorabilia dating back to 1720.
- To educate the community regarding the history of African Americans in our country.
- To provide educational seminars and activities to the community that will enhance learning skills, and serve as prevention to at-risk youth.
- o produce local and national publications based on the history of African Americans through research and artifacts.
